Sexual Differences Male develops blue head, yellow throughout body and fins, blue speckles in body and fins. Females grey/brown with slight hints of yellow in the fins.
General Information Located at Chipoka, Malawi. Found mostly in intermediate zones. Diet in the wild consists of microinvertebrates found in the sand.

The aquarium should have some rockwork but still provide open swimming space both along the bottom and mid-tank region. Feed a quality cichlid flake/pellet food, supplement occasionally with frozen brine, krill or mysis.

Keep one male to several females, do not keep with other Aulonocara species as hybridization can occur.

Slope of forehead on A. chipoka straight as opposed to the curved slope of A. baenschi.

A. chipoka subject to much line breeding to develop the red strains like A. rubescens and A. spec. 'German Red'.
