Sexual Differences Male coloration depends on the location the species is found. In general, the male develops blue in the face, body and fins and will either display a yellow or white blaze along the dorsal fin often extending down the forehead. Some yellow or white coloration can also be found on the anal fin edge. Females are an olive green/brown color with 3 blotches/spots along the body.
General Information Located at Mumbo, Thumbi West and East, Zimbawe Rock, Chinyamwezi and from the tip of Domwe Island to Monkey Bay. Each location has its own specific race with subtle changes in the male coloration and markings. Found in the the rocky habitat, inhabiting caves along the rocky bottom. Diet in the wild consists of droppings of other fish.

The aquarium should have some rockwork but still provide open swimming space both along the bottom and mid-tank region. Forming caves in the aquarium will greatly benefit this species and bring out its natural behavior. Feed a quality cichlid flake/pellet food, supplement occasionally with frozen brine, krill or mysis.
