Is there anyone out their that can tell me the highest temperature that malawi cichlids can tolerate?
The reason i ask is that here in the uk we are having an unbelievable heatwave (37c) and the tank temp has risen to 84f. At the moment there are no fish in my tank as i'm just starting out and the tank is still cycling at the moment, but i would be a bit concerned that it's too warm. Is there any ideas on how to keep the temp down. For your reference the heater does work but is not plugged in at the moment so it isn't the heater at fault! The tank is situated in an alcove out of direct sunlight...the room it's in is just very hot.
Thanks

When Ive treated fish for Ich I got the the temp
close to 90 degrees!!!!! I think anywhere from 78 - 82 degrees is close to the norm & should be fine.

| If you do run into a heat emergency, close the curtains in the room and run a fan near the surface of the tank to cool things down. You might want to add an air stone or something to increase aeration as well. Also, keep your heater plugged in, since it should shut off above your desired water temp anyway. If the fan cools your aquarium too much, the heater will kick in to keep things stable. |
