Common Name "Fire Blue", "Chinyankwazi", "Ndiwe"
Fish Size min 6" - max 6" Inches
Min Tank Size 50 Gallons
Sexual Differences Male develops blue in the head, body and fins. The anal fin shows some red with hints of red in the caudal and dorsal fins. Female remains silver with two horizantal bands on the body. Some yellow in the fins will also be present.
General Information Located at Makanjila Point. Found in shallow water, where sand meet rocks. Diet in the wild consists of invertebrates scraped of the rocks and sand.

The aquarium should have some rockwork but still provide open swimming space both along the bottom and mid-tank region. Feed a quality cichlid flake/pellet food, supplement occasionally with frozen brine, krill or mysis.

P. ndiwe and P. hinderi look very much alike in juvenile form and should not be combined in the same tank. Furthermore, care should be taken to ensure these two species are not crossed by accident. Telling this two species apart is not easy but can be done. The P. ndiwe juveniles and females have a subtle yellow cast in the fins as opposed to P. hinderi that lack this feature.
